Bio

"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire."

~William Butler Yeats

My roots lie in the rich soil of Mississippi where I was born and spent most of my early years. I have also resided in Colorado and Tennessee. West Georgia has been my home for over 16 years now. I met my husband while working at an area wilderness camp for youth with behavioral difficulties. Over 15 years later, we have two loving daughters and quite a few pets.

I come from a family of educators and ministers. I believe that the value of education is in the opportunities it makes available, the contribution it provides to a society's progress, and; most importantly, the independence of thought and self-awareness that it nurtures in the individual. I am grateful to work in a profession that allows me to participate in the education process for so many. I am further blessed to have the opportunity to support students who may struggle in the education system to strive for success and independence.

Experience

I have been teaching for nearly 12 years. My certifications are in Special Education (Grades:P-12) and English Language Arts (Grades: 6-12). I began my career in psychology and counseling; however, I transitioned to teaching in 2007. Working with students with behavioral and emotional difficulties is my primary area of experience. In addition to my instructional training, I have an abundance of training related to crisis intervention, socio-behavioral awareness, and trauma-informed care.
